Five Stages

Artist Statement

Five Stages refers to the cycle of grieving. The works featured in this series are sketchbook entries written and drawn during hospital visits in the fall of 2015. At this time, my grandfather was fighting his last fight against cancer. The helplessness and whirlwind of emotions that consumed me as I sat next to him everyday for hours on end, could only lessen in weight- if I laid out my thoughts on to paper. Although only five spreadsheets are displayed for this series, an entire moleskin notebook was completed during the last month of his life. I dedicate my wonderful upbringing and knack for imagination to him. The most wholesome, gentle and kind hearted man, Ronald (a.k.a Pap). Rest in peace, young man.
